Going Green!

Earth day is almost upon us and we are beginning our "Going Green" unit. For the next two weeks the students will be working in groups to research a Green topic and prepare a station for the first Ruby Team Green fair! Some of the topics that will be displayed are recycling, repurposing, using reusable water bottles, hybrid cars, alternate fuel sources, and many more.

The students were very enthusiastic when they heard about the assignment and I think that we're going to get great results. Go GREEN!!

Teachers for a day

We're coming to the end of our unit of Beauty and the kids had to end this unit by teaching a class for an entire class period. The topic they taught was the same as their research paper topic and they worked hard to create a lesson plan, classroom layout, student activities, and management strategies. Overall I've been really impressed with how the students created many fun, interesting and effective lessons. They were great teachers!!

One piece of this assignment that was particularly interesting to watch was how many students commented on how hard it was to teach. One girl said over and over, "I'm never talking out in class again." They were able to see why teachers get frustrated when they don't listen or talk in class. I thought this was a great lesson in many ways!
